Going the distance
Fitness · Beginner
Explanation
openA set of Crossminton is an alternation of short, intense rallies and small breaks in between — and that many times over. Whoever collapses after the first intense rallies doesn't lose because they play worse — they run out of energy. Endurance here means: holding the same level until the last ball.
This endurance has two sides. One is the general foundation — a cardiovascular system that carries the load of a whole match. You build that with regular, moderate exercise, whether running, cycling or swimming. The other side is game-specific endurance — the ability to call up short intense loads again and again. You train that best by playing and deliberately going the distance through the intense phases.
For the start, a simple truth applies: whoever plays regularly and challenges themselves in doing so already builds a lot of endurance. Additional easy endurance training helps on top, especially if you run out of breath early.
Endurance is the tank everything else draws from. If it's empty, the best engine is no use to you.
What matters is building up with patience. Endurance grows slowly and steadily. Whoever wants too much too fast risks overload instead of progress.

Goal
Create an endurance base that carries a whole set.
How to do it
- Build a regular, easy endurance base — a form of exercise you enjoy and can keep up: running, cycling, swimming.
- In matches, deliberately go the distance through the intense rallies instead of cutting them short — game-specific endurance arises in play itself.
- Use the short breaks between rallies deliberately for a quick breather and to regather.
Self-check
Watch whether toward the end of a match you still have the same movement quality as at the start. If it collapses, the endurance base is the place to start. Increase the volume slowly — moderate regularity beats occasional overexertion.
Wrap-up
Endurance is the most patient project: it doesn't show after a week, but after a few weeks it carries every one of your matches.
